'Tis the season for holiday parties - and lucky us, we have the best clients that allow us to flex our holiday mistletoe! Here's a taste of one of our favorite installations of the season.

Nestled in the Pacific Palisades (and with the rain not letting up here in Los Angeles), we adorned the entryway foyer with red ilex berries which stood in Japanese style vases, surrounding a magnificent display of 'winter wonderland' white florals: pillows of white hydrangea and roses with touches of magnolia leaves, berzilia, hypericum berry, and silvery dusty miller.

Inspired by only the finest pages of Sunset Magazine (and the latest episode of Brothers & Sisters) our client Gail mentioned her love for magnolia leaves and winter whites - and we took it from there! Both the mantle and the dining room chandelier were the centerpieces for the evenings' festivities. Using fresh holiday garland mixed in with some rustic magnolia, we adorned the fireplace mantle, accenting the needles with several varieties of white orchids - perfect for welcoming Santa down any chimney!

The chandelier, also draped with mixed holiday greens, created a visual floating wreath. Strategically placed fresh orchids evoked that hint of winter white as the sweet smell of Christmas air filled the room!

Rustic Elegance

Looking back, one of our favorite themes of the summer embraced everything earthy, organic and eco-friendly. Our hands-on bride Stephanie had everybody pitching in on this day!

Brought in at the final hour to handle designing all her personal floral bouquets, family and friends all “rolled-up-their sleeves” on this one, and brought to life a day of love worth every special moment.

Because of Stephanie’s creativity and eco friendly attitude, we only found it fitting that the regality and beauty of her bridal bouquets and boutonnières should reflect that. Dripping with earthy green berzelia, creamy white and dusty pink roses, splashes of chocolate cosmos and star of bethlehem, accented the center piece - the star of the show “the desert flower”. With any bet, we guarantee no bride will want to throw this one at the bridal toss!

Hosted by The Victorian in Santa Monica, table tops were adorned and named after rustic and picturesque places, fusing the elements of nature by using hand-made planters out of tree bark, and a variety of succulents (yes succulents!) – All produced at the hand of Stephanie’s mother-in-law to be (how’s that for good graces!).

Looking closely at growing trends, more and more people understand the beauty and simplicity of succulents – how great is it to think that when used as a metaphor for love (standing and weathering all elements) the centerpiece of a great testament to the feeling and emotions you share on that special day, in a perfect union between two people.

This past weekend we got our creative groove on for one of our favorite longtime clients’ 40th Birthday celebration! Saima came to us with excited anticipation of this big milestone birthday, and with the most beautiful smile on her face told us that her wish is to create a beautiful night, not just for her, but to honor her amazing friendships.

With this in mind we knew a giant feasting table to seat her 24+ guestlist was a ‘must have’! But for this sassy lady, we knew we had to make it really sparkle. With rain in the forecast, we quickly got to work setting the scene: Up went the tent and in went the breathtaking 5-foot francois chandelier in all it’s glory, and to top it all off, twinkle lights surrounded the tent from every possible vantage point. Knowing Saima as we do, we knew that vibrant jewel toned florals had to be front and center for this tabletop, and yet we just couldn’t resist sneaking in a Lilla Bello twist: a dramatic sculptural centerpiece of twisted driftwood branches with nestled in florals of roses, hydrangea, dahlias and succulents. To further personalize this magical night, on each napkin setting lay a perfect handmade flower made out of sheet music, atlas maps, or poetry pages, with one of Saima’s favorite friendship quotes perfectly tied to each stem… voila!

As the evening continued on, each of her adoring friends came in and filled the tent with all of the warmth and laughter that Saima had imagined. Feasting on Moroccan crabcakes and Filet Mignon from The Little Door Restaurant, and sipping on savory Pinot Noir and fun specialty beers from Venice Beach Wines, the night was absolutely unstoppable.

And although blending into the background most of the time, Ben Hoffman/Two Sparrows Photography (our #1 go-to guy for photography), managed to capture not only the beauty of the décor, but the laughs, smiles and overall warmth of the night. Thank you Ben for these breathtaking shots!!

Here's the story....In 1995, Mama Kia visited Cusco, Peru and was moved by the plight of abandoned and orphaned children. She spent several months feeding them in parks but realized that they needed much more than nutrition, they needed education, medical treatment, the feeling of family and most of all…love. Three years later, after the death of her grandson Chandler Sky Patton, Kia along with her daughter Marie Patton and son-in-law Allen created the Chandler Sky Foundation – “After Chandler’s passing we had so much love to give that we decided to put it into other children who were not fortunate enough to have parents to love them.”

Mama Kia has been recently diagnosed with bone cancer, and this fundraiser is to raise awareness and support for Mama Kia's medical expenses, her 31 Adopted Children and 2 Soup-Kitchens....

Sabine & Jeff went all out to make their intimate wedding for 30 guests feel like extravagance and decadence at it's finest. A lovely ceremony at their local church was followed by an 8 course tasting menu by chef Christophe Eme at their favorite restaurant Ortolan, in West Hollywood. Florals were lush and overflowing with creamy white garden roses and dutch hydrangea. Everywhere you looked, romance was in the air, from the crystal chandeliers, to the candelabras with tall candle lit tapers, to individual butterflies adorning each champagne flute. Taryn Leach coordinated every last detail flawlessly, and Jennifer Roper Photography captured the love and warmth of the evening with these gorgeous shots (Thanks Jennifer for sharing these with us!). Brides... a brilliant idea for your bridesmaids!!

So...here's the story:

Sseko {say.co} Designs was created as a Not-Just-For-Profit business that will help bright young women in Uganda continue their education. The Ugandan school system is designed with a nine month gap between secondary school and university. These nine months are intended to allow time for students to earn money for tuition before continuing on to university. However, in an impoverished and male dominated society, many of these young women struggle to find fair work during this time.

Sseko Designs hires recent secondary school graduates for this nine month period to live and work together, while earning money that will go directly towards their university education. These women will not make sandals forever. They will go on to be doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers and teachers that will bring change and unification to a country divided and ravished by a 22 year-long war.

Sseko Designs is a for-profit enterprise that recognizes the power of business and responsible consumerism to support sustainable economic development, which in turn affects a country's educational, justice, and health care systems. The goal of Sseko Designs is two-fold: provide university tuition for these promising young women through a sustainable monthly income, while also contributing to the overall economic development of Uganda.

Although consumerism makes many empty promises, responsible and proactive consumerism has the ability to change lives.

This story has only just begun, but with your help, it will be a story of hope, success and change.

Liza Shtromberg - Eco Friendly Jewelry

We recently became acquainted with the lovely Liza Shtromberg, jewelry artist & designer here out of Los Angeles. Liza and her team not only design gorgeous pieces that anyone would love to add to their personal collections, but she is also pioneering a movement towards creating those special one-of-a-kind pieces using strictly ethically mined stones & metals. Going green is not an easy task in general, but it is incredibly hard for the jewelry industry.

In addition, they are adhering strictly to human rights policies where workers are concerned, as well as adhering to practices that will produce the absolute least amount of waste and pollution.

Even greener than this is the concept of using recycled metal. ALL of the silver in the store is recycled. All of the gold is either recycled or from sources they have confirmed to be ethical.

And a final huge factor of being ethical in production of jewelry is the labor. Where you make it. Everything is made here, in Los Angeles, and almost entirely in their studio in Los Feliz. It’s all made by hand by their jewelers.

After a beautiful 10 year courtship and a blessed bun in the oven, Don and Christina decided to make it official at their favorite Beverly Hills restaurant Il Cielo. Not only does Il Cielo radiate in twinkle lights and candleabras, but Pasquale, Fabio and the entire staff make sure the night is nothing short of magical. Don and Christina chose a romantic color palatte of reds, burgundies and creamy whites to off set the rustic yet cozy italian decor of the restaurant. Endless thanks to the talented Terrence Bishop Photography for truly capturing the essence of the evening, and sharing these photographs with us. Around every corner, there was warmth, laughter and love....

Indian Wonderland...

Reminiscing to last winter, we wanted to share some photos of an amazing Buddhist wedding we did. The ceremony took place around a fountain, under a Raj tented roof. Guests sat in a crescent-shaped ceremony structure and just about everywhere they turned were bursts of brightly colored florals, ancient statues, and shrines of all kinds. The couple? Rock and roll royalty, but we're sworn to secrecy.

Garden Wedding Soirée

This weekend we did an absolutely lovely wedding for Don & Julie. Not only were they a gorgeous couple (and so sweet too), but their Hollywood Hills home provided for the most perfect backdrop to their dream garden wedding. We adorned the front gate in flowing ivy, with bright bursts of firey orange and crimson red roses. As you enter into the courtyard, the ceremony site awaits. The spanish style home already had tons of natural foliages and bougainvillea, so we just went with it, and matched the Chuppah structure to blend in as if it had grown there itself! OK so the huge piles of red & orange petals might not have grown like that....

Following the ceremony, guests are led down to the lower garden area, where 100 family members and friends gather at long banquet tables. To keep with the theme of an intimate home celebration, guests dined family style on gorgeous tables of golden shimmery linens, gold trimmed china, and amber goblets! The florals were simple but packed a punch with green hydrangea, summery dahlias and firey roses. The delicious fare was created by the talented folks of The Kitchen For Exploring Foods out of Pasadena. Check back soon for professional pictures!

Last month, we were absolutely thrilled to have worked with the lovely Emily & Pete for their intimate wedding at Shutters on the Beach. They came to us with a very clear vision of their day. By keeping their guest list to a minimum, it really allowed them to maximize on each of their guests experience, focusing on creating an amazing banquet table where there was room for everyone to sit together! In collaboration with Kelly Dunphy at Lyndsey Hamilton Events, we designed the tablescape in a color palette of dove gray, creamy & antiqued ivories and touches of tiffany blue. Florals consisted of a solid sea of roses, hydrangea & peonies reaching from one end of the table to the other. From the crisp gray linens to the chargers to the silver trimmed stemware, every detail was addressed. We finished it off with a napkin treatment of starfish and delicate wood roses, the table was exquisite! Professional pics are coming so stay tuned........
